Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in after a Peel Regional Police cruiser and a car collided on Friday night near Sheridan Centre, seriously injuring an eight-year-old boy.+ c0 M/ A4 U% F* V9 E0 d) }, F
% h* X, `! o4 I" M* ySIU spokesperson Frank Phillips confirmed this afternoon that the provincial watchdog, which investigates incidents involving police where there has been a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault to determine whether officers should be charged, is involved due to the severity of the boy's injuries.
8 i9 K( B- e+ j9 b1 L) M2 |The boy, who was initially taken to a local hospital and later transported to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children, is expected to recover, said Peel Cst. Thomas Ruttan.
; Z% v+ ~1 B4 ?Meanwhile, police and the SIU are looking for witnesses to the Erin Mills Pkwy./Sheridan Park Dr. crash, which sent two other people, including a police officer, to hospital just after 9 p.m. The officer, who suffered minor injuries, was released from hospital.
